2017 - the round up. by Nicole Hains

Well that went fast!!! 2017 was far busier than I ever expected and I have had the time of my life photographing a hugely wide variety of different subjects. I have photographed many celebrity chef's, Mary Berry & Tom Kerridge you were a delight. I feasted on far too many delicious dishes, photographed more weddings than I could of possibly imagined taking on (see our 2017, a year in the making blog here) and photographed so many recognisable faces from Superman (Henry Cavill) to Motor racing legends, Jackie Stewart, Mark Webber & Mad Mike.

With all these fantastic photoshoots in my diary, I made the decision that 2018 is the year for change, there are some ambitions you just can't let pass you by. I decided to change the way I work at Goodwood in search of building on my freelance work, I can't tell you exactly where this will lead me but its time to embrace the journey.

Festival Of Speed 2017 by Nicole Hains

WOW! Where to start when it comes to explaining how amazing this year’s Festival of Speed was?!

You may notice I spent a lot of time with the drift cars because very little beats being within a meter of Mad Mike doing a burn out in the Mazda MX5 26B until he set the car on fire! For me, highlights had to be riding up the hill climb in the f1 team vans, getting covered in champers by Nico Rosberg and the surreal moment when the evening entertainment consisted of Joules Holland, Nick Mason and Mike and the Mechanics preforming together – Only at Goodwood!

There are opportunities to take images literally around every corner; it’s a playground for any photographer and motorsport lover. You may notice some of my favourite spots are the first corner, the top paddock and the assembly area. Until next year FoS.

75th Members Meeting by Nicole Hains

75th Members Meeting is my favourite of the Goodwood events to photograph as it has a fantastic atmosphere, a lot less people and it is access all areas!

This year it was overcast although not too cold every day, meaning lots of flat light - not my fav at all but never mind. This is probably why I like the evening shoots the best, at least the light was interesting.

Here is just a small selection of images I took and yes that is Mary Berry!

Battle Of Britain Display by Nicole Hains

To celebrate 75 years since the allies triumphed in the battle of Britain, Hurricanes, Spitfires and the last remaining Blenheim took to the sky and moved into formation for the routes around South East England.

Mary Ellis

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Mary Ellis, 98 years old and still flying! Mary was a pilot in the war and learnt to fly over 76 types of aircraft including Spitfires and Hurricanes. She personally delivered over 400 spitfires alone!

These days it could be taken for granted the assistance given in flying; for Mary Ellis she would take flight without so much as a radio or map! Only being given a compass and the instruction to fly northbound as a protection measure for the rest of the fleet and aircraft base in case enemy forces captured her.

Hearing this story and many others told by the veterans was incredibly moving and I was incredibly privileged to have witnessed this spectacular event.

Inside Goodwoods Christmas Party with Trevor Nelson by Nicole Hains

When you have the best creative and event planning team at your fingertips, you can only expect the best party right? Well last night the Goodwood Christmas #Blowout Party did not fail to impress, so a huge thank you to everyone who organised the night.

Trevor Nelson put on a fantastic set and everyone danced the night away. Yes, I have the evidence...

Glorious Goodwood by Nicole Hains

A place like no other, Goodwood's Racecourse is situated in the heart of the Downs, with Glorious Goodwood the highlight of the Racing calendar. Packed with excitement and elegance, the event is always set to please even the most elite crowd.

This year we were lucky to have many familiar faces such as Zara Philips, Carol Vorderman and Natalie Pinkham. We were also lucky enough to have the beautiful Ella Catliff in attendance, shortlisted for Fashion Blogger of the year, Ella's Blog is a must read!

My personal highlight of Glorious Goodwood is the Magnolia cup, presented by Theo Fennell. This year Edie Cambell took home the prize, riding See the Storm.

Festival of Speed Gallery by Nicole Hains

The Festival of Speed is an event like no other, with more than 200,000 people attending over the event it could be that FoS has now become the largest Green Field event in the world and certainly there is nowhere else I would have rather been.

This year we celebrated 120 years with Mercedes-Benz, who stole the show with their breathtaking central feature that was the first in history to soar over the top of Goodwood House!

We witnessed Seb Loeb win the shoot-out in the Pikes Peak, Lewis Hamilton Donoughting outside Goodwood House, Anthony Reid lose a wheel at Molcombe corner after a small incident with the flint wall and Chris Hoy speed into the haybales.

Another fantastic moment was John Surtees marking his 50th anniversary of winning the 1964 F1 title. The occasion was marked with a special hill climb in which Surtees drove his Ferrari 158 alongside Kimi Raikkonen in his title winning 2007 F1 car.
